Missy Dunaway

Photo of Missy DunawayAs an artist-in-residence I explored nearby rivers and lakes to study local fish, including the arctic grayling and westslope cutthroat trout. I paired my research with learning to hand-tie fishing flies styled to mimic native insects and attract local fish species. I illustrated my findings in a series of paintings that document the Centennial Valley's fish, insect, and bird ecology. On the side, I photographed the landscape to record later in my pictorial travel journal, which is comprised of over one hundred paintings.

I am a Fulbright Fellow and my artwork has exhibited internationally in Brooklyn, Washington DC, Chicago, Berlin, Istanbul and the UK. Paintings from my travel journal are featured in Dawn DeVries Sokol's book, A World of Artist Journal Pages, published in 2015. I am a represented artist at Edgewater Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont.
