Savannah Pearson

Savannah is a writer and organizer from St. Petersburg, Florida. She writes speculative short stories, poetry, and screenplays about the climate emergency. Her writing is usually strange, and it often explores issues of queerness and disability. As a student and community engagement fellow in the Environmental Humanities program at the University of Utah, Savannah is exploring the role of poetry and performance in the movement to save Great Salt Lake. During her time at the Taft Nicholson Center, she will be working on a mail art project called, “A Letter to the Artist,” which reengages with still life paintings by artists throughout history in the context of the Sixth Mass Extinction.

Before moving to Salt Lake City for grad school, Savannah spent three years working at a sustainable development center in New York. She hopes to keep writing, organizing, and researching how art and storytelling can function to inspire cultural shifts and facilitate collective action
